I have displayed a whole lot of pictures of tattoos just to show you the variety and quality of tattoos that folk from around the world are getting. Tattoos have really increased in popularity recently, especially in the USA, South America, Europe and Japan. Because of this there has been a corresponding increase in tattoo artists and most of these new generation artists bring with them fine arts training and better technical abilities. There are now excellent tattoo designs that you can choose from and, together with superior tattooing equipment and advanced pigments, the quality of tattoos available now is just mind boggling.

 

Today’s 21st century pop culture has lifted the profile of tattoos. Many celebrities are wearing tattoos and pictures of tattoos are seen regularly in celebrity magazines. So where did the idea of having tattoos come from? For generations, in cultures all over the world, tattoos have been used as marks of status, decorations for bravery as well as symbols of spiritual and religious devotion. For example, some Philippine tribal groups get tattoos as they believe that pictures of tattoos give the wearer magical qualities and in some South Eastern Asian countries, tattoos are thought to protect against evil. Mostly, though, tattoos are chosen for cosmetic reasons and can be done on all parts of the body in differing sizes and designs.
